About Us

Now offering online classes and lessons for all ages and experience levels!

Founded in 1931, the Music Institute of Chicago is one of the oldest community music schools in Illinois. The Music Institute of Chicago, a not-for-profit educational organization, is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Each year, our world-class music teachers and creative arts therapists provide the highest quality arts education and therapies to nearly 5,000 students of all ages and ability levels, at campuses in Chicago, Downers Grove, Evanston, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire and Winnetka. MIC is thrilled to be moving its second Evanston campus and black box theater, creative arts therapy services and adminstrative team into the former Marshal Fields Building at 1702 Sherman in late summer 2013.

Performances at Nichols Concert Hall, located in downtown Evanston, reach approximately 14,000 people each year. Music Institute of Chicago community engagement and partnership programs reach an additional 6,500 Chicago Public School students annually.
